Bergen
Bergen is a picturesque city with colourful hillside buildings rising in tiers from the harbour. Its continuing dependency on the sea is reflected by its lively fish market. Bergen's prosperity as a Hanseatic port is indicated by the well-preserved wooden buildings of the harbourside Bryggen district, also the site of the Hanseatic Museum and Bryggens Museum. Adjacent is Bergen's oldest building, the 12th-century St Mary's Church, which has an ornate interior. Take the funicular to Fløyen for a stunning view over the city and its seven fjords. Troldhaugen, the former home of composer Edvard Grieg, is situated on Bergen's outskirts.
