Private Safaris partners with AMREF for Flying Doctors Service
Private Safaris, the business unit of Kuoni Destination Management in Africa, will go into partnership with AMREF for its Flying Doctors Service, effective 1 November 2009. The goal is to facilitate medical emergency care and evacuation services to all of its clients.
A recent plan by Private Safaris to increase clients’ safety while on a safari resulted in the decision to go into partnership with “AMREF” (African Medical and Research Foundation) for its Flying Doctors Service.
“In what is significant progress towards service delivery, we are very pleased to be on board with AMREF Flying Doctors. Private Safaris is the first Destination Management Company in East Africa to facilitate medical emergency care and evacuation services to all of its clients. This particularly shows our commitment to meeting our clients’ needs for high quality services – when it comes to any and every aspect of their holidays”, said Thomas Iten, Executive Director, Private Safaris East Africa.
The provision of this medical package meets international emergency care standards. Given that many tourist destinations in East Africa are situated in remote regions and provide limited medical facilities, Flying Doctors Services are an ideal attribute to the existing safari tours in Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. AMREF’s control centre administers communication and overall logistics. Its highly professional doctors and nurses are on call around the clock.
AMREF is an international African organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. The company has 50 years of experience in health development. Its vision is “better health for Africa”. In 1957, three surgeons founded the Flying Doctors Service of East Africa, laying the foundation for what is now one of the continent’s leading health development and research organisations.
