Protecting the innocent in India
Kuoni Destination Management India has been very active in the fight against child pornography, prostitution and trafficking and encouraging business partners to develop interventions against sexual exploitation of children.
In 2009 and 2010 a series of four workshops was held in Goa and Cochin, Kerala, India. The workshops, organised in collaboration with the Code organization, ECPAT International and EQUATIONS, a local research and advocacy organisation aiming to democratise tourism in India, were attended by 225 participants. Hotel partners in the region learned practical tips and exchange ideas on applying effective tools towards child protection, as outlined in the “Child Protection Code”.
Dipak Deva, Chief Executive Officer, Kuoni Destination Management India & South Asia, denotes the project as having set industry standards in innovation and excellence.
Kuoni Destination Management India has been recognised for their child protection efforts with the 2010 Bird Express TravelWorld Award in the category Corporate Responsibility as well as the 2010 PATA Gold Award in the category Education & Training.
You can read a report on our child protection child protection workshops in Goa and Kerala on the Kuoni Group website.
Literacy India
Kuoni Destination Management India has been actively cooperating with the non-profit organisation ‘Literacy India’, based in Gurgaon. The organisation provides education support to children from underprivileged communities, breaking the cycle of poverty by building trust and awareness, teaching about personal grooming, producing street plays and identifying local social problems.
Amongst other projects, Literacy India supports an independent paper unit where paper is recycled by trained women to help them earn a living. They have created handmade bags with the Kuoni Destination Management, Sita and Distant Frontiers’ logos. These bags carry the travel kit and are given to clients on arrival.
