CR Day 2011
The Kuoni Destination Management offices around the world actively joined the Corporate Responsibility Day 2011 on 26 October. Under the theme “Aware & Fair”, the aim was to bring awareness to all colleagues about fair trade and fair travel in fun and innovative ways. Great activities took place at our offices around the world:
Kenya
Private Safaris East Africa engaged in a tree planting exercise at Kenya’s Karura forest, a vital water catchment area. The forest sits on 1.063 hectares within the outskirts of the city and previously suffered deforestation. The Private Safaris team, comprising of representatives from each department - including Thomas Iten, Managing Director and Michael Njogu, Head of Sales & Marketing and Meetings and Incentives-, planted over 200 trees. This initiative is part of a three- year plan that will foresee maintenance of the trees planted.
India
Employees across Kuoni Destination Management India and Nepal participated in a cooking competition. To enter the competition, participants had to cook a regional vegetarian dish with at least two organic ingredients. The focus was on local, seasonal ingredients and traditional cuisine. The dish was prepared at home and brought to work on 25 October 2011, to be evaluated by judges for the two prize categories.
Switzerland
Staff at the Kuoni Destination Management headquarters participated in a Fair Travel Parcours. The Parcours was made up of a dozen posters scattered throughout the building with information about fair travel, the Travelife Sustainability System –which recognises sustainably-run hotels, child protection and Kuoni's sustainable products. Participants were given a quiz which they could fill out by "scavenging" the posters for the right answers. Over 200 employees in Kuoni Destination Management and Kuoni Switzerland turned in quizzes for a chance to win free trips, weekends in sustainable hotels and gift certificates for sustainable shops.
US
Kuoni Destination Management USA held short meetings with their employees. They all shared many interesting facts and definitions of fair trade and fair travel to increase their awareness of the subject. Many of the employees spoke about supporting the local economy by purchasing food and gifts at smaller privately owned shops and restaurants.
