Fair Trade travel to South Africa

Private Safaris is organising a 16-day FIT package through the Garden Route of South Africa, the first ever Fair Trade travel package.  Fair Trade Travel (FTT) benefits product owners and tourism workers in South Africa by monitoring fair pricing levels and fair contractual agreements between all partners in the supply chain, especially for small and emerging tourism service providers.
The 16-day package, currently available from Switzerland and the UK, offers overnight stays at fair trade certified lodges.

The first Fair Trade Travel packages assure customers that the tour operators in South Africa, Switzerland and the UK and the transport providers in South Africa adhere to fair trade standards. Tour operators have committed to managing their companies in a responsible manner and to pay their business partners fair prices, living wages for the staff as well as environmental protection measures. Suppliers in South Africa will be paid upon arrival of the guests, and not weeks or even months later, as it could have occurred in the past.

A fair trade premium of five per cent will be added to the price paid to local service providers – a surcharge which is to be used for community development in the destinations.
