FROM OUR HOTEL REPRESENTATIVE IN BALI
Ida Bagus Putu Adnyana
Hotel representative for Asian Trails
Based in: Bali, Indonesia
Area covered: Bali
How is a day in your life as a hotel representative?
The day normally starts with checking with the hotel to make sure that our clients get everything they are entitled to. I then give general health and safety information to the clients, details about the resort, restaurants, transportation, weather, currency, shopping, departure information etc. I am there to assist them during their stay and to solve any issues that might come up.
What do you like the most about your job?
I love meeting clients from all over the world and learn about their culture, way of life, mentality and different personalities. As a hotel representative, I meet mainly British clients. I think they are very sensitive and quite shy asking me questions!
What are the required skills to become a hotel representative?
Have a very good level of English, be service-orientated, very flexible, friendly and with excellent organisation skills.
What is the craziest request you have ever received from a client?
I once was asked by a client to come to his hotel every day because he wanted to talk to me and tell me all his personal problems. Guides are also psychologists!
Have you experienced any funny situations with a client/s?
One client called me in the middle of the night, around 3am, and asked me to urgently come to the hotel to catch a mouse that scared his wife.
What are tourists in Bali mainly looking for?
They look for traditional villages and rice paddies, temples and, if possible, a ceremony. The cremation ceremonies are always very fascinating for our clients. Ceremonies and rituals of Bali’s Hindu religion are split into five categories: the Dewa yadnya ceremonies for the God; Pitra yadnya or cremation ceremony for the ancestors; Rsi yadnya ceremonies for the saints and founders of the religion; Manusa yadnya life cycle ceremonies; and Buta yadnya ceremonies to keep the evil spirit at bay.
What does Asian Trails offer that is unique and makes the client have a memorable experience?
We provide a personalised service and cater for the specific needs and expectations of the client. Furthermore, I am on 24 hours call should there be a question, need any suggestions or some issues, guest are welcome to contact me at any time.
Tell us one thing that we shouldn’t miss when visiting Bali.
The stunning rice paddies in Jatiluwih and a beautiful trek in the mountains. A trip with the convertible VW Kuebelwagen is as very nice experience too. It offers the opportunity to discover Bali’s amazing scenery away from the usual tourist routes. The stops made by our experienced drivers really make this day out a unique experience. You go through small roads, lush vegetation, remote villages and beautiful rice terraces. There is a visit to a small Hindu temple, and you have chance to learn about the local herbs, spices and stop at a Balinese house compound to get a feeling of Balinese daily life.
