Lapland is renowned as being the land of fells and Northern lights, for having plenty of snow and harsh temperatures, but this Finnish region has much more to offer.
Lapland has the vastest and most spectacular untamed wilderness areas in Europe. Winter activities are endless: snow mobile safaris, dog sledding, arctic driving, snow walking, down and cross-country skiing, or ice fishing… but summer activities too as the sun does not set below the horizon at all. You can practise canoeing, river rafting, mountain biking, Nordic walking or hiking in any of the seven National Parks. Breath-taking routes and landscapes wait for you.
Nightless nights in summer and darker days in winter make Lapland so unique. The twilight period, when the sun does not rise above the horizon, lasts for over a month. In a dark night, catch the amazing Northern lights, a light phenomenon that can only be viewed in the northern and southern Polar Regions.
Discover the rich Sámi culture and cross neighbouring regions of Sweden, Norway and Russia. Pamper yourself in the traditional saunas, which have been used by Finnish people for centuries or experience the most modern spa.
Don’t miss the Lappish cuisine, which includes a variety of fish, traditionally smoked, reindeer, and berries like the cloudberry, a yellow fruit that can only be found in this region.
Rovaniemi
Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland, where you can experience Christmas throughout the year. Rovaniemi is the hometown of Santa Claus, who can be met on any day of the year at the Santa Claus Office in the Arctic Circle.
Levi
In the remotest corner of the North, on the other side of the Arctic Circle, there is Levi, a centre for year-round experiences. It hosts annually FIS Alpine Ski World cup competitions and aims to be the best north destination in the Nordic countries. It has new hotels, restaurants and a congress venue and is an excellent destination for even for the most demanding client.
